Samsung Galaxy Note 7 banned on U.S. flights

The Department of Transportation has issued a ban on Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones. A faulty lithium ion battery has been causing the device to overheat and, in some cases, explode. Bart Jansen, transportation reporter for USA Today, joins CBSN to discus the ban.

  • Why does this particular type of phone blow up? Is it the cheap batteries, or is it the faulty safety mechanisms that were supposed to be in place to keep that battery from overheating (which is responsible of 98.32 percent of cases of explosions)?
